I love the scene in Seinfeld when Elaine's boyfriend, Puddy, tells her she's going to hell because she is not a Christian. At first, she's upset that he believes that Christian stuff, then she says to him,
"Don't you even care that I'm going to hell?"
And he says "no, that's your problem."
Hell. We are already in hell, a hell of sorts. I know there is another kind of hell, the outer darkness that is beyond recognition, being the ultimate hell. And the hell which is called "spirit prison." I'm already living in the lowest kingdom, the telestial, and compared to the terrestrial and the celestial, it must be hell. How else can you explain the horrible things that go on here. I'm pretty sure that when Jehovah refers to this earth, he says we will go down.
Down. Down here, where there is every sordid circumstance and hellish people.
Adam and Eve were quite beyond themselves when they walked out of the garden into this mortal life--this telestial world. The Books of Adam and Eve say that they feared greatly, and begged the Lord to let them back into the garden, the garden of the terrestrial sphere, the paradisaical glory. Adam even threw himself off the cliff in this little story because his memories of a better life were too much.
We must struggle to get back to a higher glory. No wonder we are not to be of this world -- this world is at the bottom. We must rub shoulders with all kinds of people here, and help those that want help, and not get sucked into all the wickedness that this world offers. After all, who is the God of this world? I am pretty sure Lucifer claims that title. I guess it is good that we do not have a memory of our angelic life before. We wake up as a little child, as did Adam in the garden.
Well, I hope I am not going to hell for watching Seinfeld. The first time I saw it, I thought wow, so many topics that are of this world. And I didn't watch it. Then came the reruns on "TV" and I watched a couple. Then laughed at some of the silly stuff.
As a Mormon, we are more generous with who goes to "Heaven" or a kingdom of glory.
Very few actually go to Hell.
We certainly don't believe that anyone who is not a Mormon is going to Hell. In fact, you would have to be a "Mormon" who had first-hand knowledge of God, Jesus, the Holy Ghost and openly choose to crucify Christ, to be cast out to what we call the ultimate Hell -- outer darkness.

Fantastic! I love this post! Brilliant...

Don't tell me we might go to Hell for watching Seinfeld because I love that show. But if I do, at least I'll go laughing!
ReplyDeletethanks--I love that show too, and sometimes identify with the characters! Or know someone who does.
